Some incredible luck happened when I visited the birthplace of my grandfather (a small town in central Sicily called San Cataldo).
When my AirBnb host heard I’d come to research my grandfather’s origins, she and her granddaughter insisted on taking me to city hall and guiding me through the bureaucracy.
And just like that I had a copy of his birth certificate and the location of his childhood home.
What good fortune that my AirBnb hosts were such lovely people who are now like new-found family.
