This is big.
Google has opened a school-safe YouTube service that will go a long way to giving schools greater access to educational videos that typically are blocked by most district filters.
In a nutshell, schools can now locally manage YouTube access so that only videos with educational value and purpose are accessible. No worries about linking to inappropriate content, or seeing profane or offensive comments.
In a stroke it does away with the tedious, cumbersome process of getting blocked YouTube videos unblocked by district-level staff.
The service requires management, but what school would not gladly assume that responsibility in order to make the ‘good side’ of YouTube readily available for instruction?
There are technical requirements the district must fulfill in order for the service to work, but once those relatively simple steps are complete a school can commence to opening up a world of educational videos that are fresh, free, and easily embeddable.
