Just hooked up the 2nd Roku in the house. This one is the 'XS' with the game remote. Includes Angry Birds. Amazed all over again at how easy the setup is.

We're seeing the same excitement factor at Carver - kids are asking the teachers if they'll be using Edmodo. And our principal got stoked when he saw a teacher using its quiz feature to instantly get assessment data.

I'm so glad to hear you are using it at Carver! I just started using it with one group here at Chapman, and the students are instantly excited about learning! We are using it as a science discussion board only, but I can't wait to try some of the other features!

Just had a minute to read your blog, went straight to reddit, and it is down because of the SOPA/PIPA protests - will try again tomorrow. (And to think that I thought that was your vampire cat.)

This Waldorf philosophy sounds like a very substantial idea to me. I would probably enjoy being trained in and teaching the program described. I imagine it works for them, with or without test scores for evidence---for all of the reasons named. We're not just talking about either having computers or not having computers. There are far too many factors involved to simplify the argument to a basic pro or con for computers!

Very interesting article but we are looking at a school that very few District 7 students could afford. Since they do no standardized testing, comparisons cannot be made. I would expect, however, that these kids would test very well - because of the homes they come from, not because of the type of school they are going to.

And yet, after spending 1 HOUR in the lab today with a class that was able to copy only ONE Google image, I would have to say I could cheerfully chuck all the computers out the window.

To me, this is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever read. He should read the numerous reports about iPads helping autistic children, for instance. Besides, paper, pencil, ruler...these are all basic forms of technology, too. Does he wish to do away with them as well? (I didn't read the entire NYT article, by the way, just the excerpt above.)
