The Super Smoothie

I think this smoothie would pass muster with most health and nutrition experts. (Joe & Terry Graedon of The People’s Pharmacy fame gave it two enthusiastic thumbs!) It’s packed with good stuff. Looks wretched, but tastes great! I’ve had it for breakfast practically every day for years, and it never gets old.

Ingredients

All the above I buy organic except the berries as they are hard and expensive to buy organic… When berries go on sale I buy by the buggy load and freeze. I usually get the flax and oats at Vitacost – low price, fast ship.

The shake sounds wonderful, but I need measurements. Please help me out.
    1 organge
    1 banana
    cup of berries
    1/2 cup of flaxseed
    handfull of spinach ????
    Help me please

    • Sheila, you can always flavor to taste. But I use a big handful of frozen strawberries, a big handful of frozen blueberries (when they go on sale at Publix I stock up like mad and fill the freezer). Spinach is a huge handful. The protein powder comes with its own scoop that is the size of a small shotglass, and I mix the flax and oats together and use the same size scoop of those combined. Oh, and about 8 oz of the soymilk.

  2. Have you tried using tofu?

    • Nyet. As in not yet! Right now I’m trying Rice protein – good stuff. Chocolate flavored. Organic. Brown. Good. Not quite as tasty as the whey, but good…

  3. Tony,

It sounds like a great way to get your leafy greens and antioxidant-packed berries.

We add fish oil to Joe’s smoothie, but we also use a little juice instead of soymilk, so his is probably a bit sweeter.

    • And Joe’s probably more than a bit sweeter than I am! So are you! Your show is like church to me – I never miss it! Thanks for dropping by here, and keep up the great work on The People’s Pharmacy!
